Continuity

Media Continuity

·         Continuity editing is essentially a magic trick

·         Pacing and trajectory of the story

·         Try and keep the left/right relationship

·         Bad continuity editing can change our beliefs of the scene we are watching

Match on action

Refers to film editing and video editing techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shots action. Although the two shots may have been hours apart, cutting on action gives the impression of continuous time when watching the edited film. It is a form of continuity editing.

180 degree rule

The 180 degree rule is a basic guideline that states that two characters in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called crossing the line.
